KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Kalamazoo Township Manager Dexter Mitchell’s case has been bound over for trial in circuit court.
Mitchell is accused of eavesdropping on a closed meeting by allegedly secretly recording it in March 2023.
Security camera footage showed him putting the device in the room before the township board held an attorney-client privilege closed meeting.
Mitchell retrieved the device later that night by using his key card to access the building. The 54-year-old told police he thought the meeting was going to be about him and his decision to fire township fire chiefs Matt Mulac and David Obreiter.
He then told police he did not know how to get the recording off the device and says he did not share it with anyone. Mitchell was put on administrative leave April 10.
